Whilst we are living in fast moving times, with all partners working to respond as strategically as possible to changing circumstances, it is good to see the strength of our partnership work reflected in the evaluative reports taken recently to the Children’s Trust Board and to our members.

The evaluation of the Children and Young People Plan 2009-2010 has been well received and you can read this through the link provided. This year, we have strengthened the evaluation by linking to it some more detailed reports about those aspects which have been a focus for us over the year.

Unannounced inspections of the front line contact, referral and assessment arrangements for children and young people in need and those who may be in need of protection have been carried out across the country by Ofsted since April 2009.  No period of notice is given for these annual inspections and they are carried out at one or more of the front line offices, by two HMI from Ofsted.

Our inspection was carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 15 and 16, 2010. The team focused attention on the Kingswood team, and also spent a morning with the Severnvale team. The inspection judgements are reflected in a letter from Ofsted which you can read through this link.

It is clear from the letter that the Safeguarding Board and our teams have many strengths and much that is just as it should be. There are no priority actions for us (most serious concerns). We are already working on the areas identified for development. Thank you to everyone who helped with this.

Dr Jane Spouse,
Deputy Director
Department for Children and Young People
South Gloucestershire Council

DECOMMISSIONING CONTACTPOINT - added 22 July 2010

Tim Loughton MP, Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Children and Families, has today laid a written ministerial statement informing Parliament that ContactPoint will be shut down on 6 August 2010. The Department has written today to directors of children’s services and chief executives of ContactPoint national partners. The letter sets out the timetable for shut down and decommissioning, provides guidance for local authorities, National Partners and other partners on the activities they need to undertake, and confirms funding and other support available during this period. The Government continues to consider the feasibility of a new signposting service for professionals to help them to support and protect our most vulnerable children, particularly when these children move areas or access services in more than one area.
